This is the Five-storied Pagoda of Kofuku-ji temple in Nara in spring. The original pagoda was constructed in the 2nd year of the Tempyo Era (730) at the request of Empress Komyo. But was burnt down by fire. The present pagoda, designated as a national treasure, was constructed in the 33rd year of the Oei Era (1426). Soaring 52 meters high, it is second in height in Japan only to five-storied pagoda at To-ji Temple inn Kyoto, but its solemn beauty compares favorably with the other pagoda.

The national symbol of Japan - Mt. Fuji. It can be seen from very far and many people in Japan thus see it every day. This was my very first postcard from Japan and I received it from Jakob in 2006. Thank you very very much for this fantastic postcard!
